Oregon State University is a public research university located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It began as Corvallis Academy in 1856 and received university status in 1868. OSU is considered one of the oldest universities in the state of Oregon. About 83% of the total students are undergraduates, 15% are pursuing master’s degrees, and 2% are enrolled in specialization programs. Approximately 60% of the student body consists of local students from Oregon. The university has 12 colleges, 15 agricultural experiment stations, and a marine sciences center. The campus offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, as well as around 30 online distance learning programs. Currently, 24,280 students study at the university, with 13% of them being international students from 50 different countries.

According to Times Higher Education, Oregon State University ranks 276th among U.S. universities and 301–350th globally. It is ranked 41st among the best research universities in the United States (Best College Reviews). The Corvallis campus, located in the Willamette Valley, covers 170 acres and offers stunning views in all four seasons, nearby ski resorts in the Cascades, hiking parks, and easy access to Portland and the Pacific Ocean.

With recent upgrades to sports facilities, the campus now has a synthetic soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, an Olympic swimming pool, and several volleyball courts.

Notable OSU alumni include two astronauts, two Pulitzer Prize winners, one Nobel Prize laureate, the first American woman to summit Mount Everest, and the inventor of the computer mouse.
