Widener University, Pennsylvania, is a main campus located in Chester, Pennsylvania on a 108-hectare area. The University has three other campuses: Harrisburg and Exton campuses in Pennsylvania and campus in the state of Delaware. Founded in 1821 as Bullock School for Boys, the school was founded in Wilmington, Delaware. It was Alsop Children's School in 1846-1853, and then from 1853 to 1859, became the Hyatt Children's School. In 1858, military instruction was given and in 1859 the school changed its name to the Military Academy of Delaware. In 1862, it was moved to Pennsylvania and became a Pennsylvania Military Academy. After 1892, The university was known as the Military College of Pennsylvania, and in 1972 it was adopted the name Widener. The university offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in areas ranging from traditional liberal arts to professional programs. The Carnegie Foundation Widener Doctor is classified as Research University and Community Development Authority. Widener was rated in the 181st place in the National Universities category by the 2012 US News and World Report.
