Fully-funded Ph.D. opportunities will be available at the University of Exeter starting in 2024, thanks to the EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership, offering up to 15 studentships for entry in September 2024.

The EPSRC is the primary funding body for engineering and physical sciences research in the UK, covering a wide range of fields such as digital technologies, clean energy, manufacturing, mathematics, advanced materials, and chemistry.

Funding Information for Studentships:
For eligible applicants who are successful, the studentship includes:

  • A stipend indexed to inflation, covering 3.5 years of full-time study (currently £18,622 per annum for 2023/24), or a pro-rata amount for part-time students.
  • University tuition fees will be covered.
  • A Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) of £5,000 over 3.5 years, or a pro-rata amount for part-time students.

Eligibility for Funding:
A limited number of fully-funded studentships are available for international students who do not meet the requirements for Home students. International students will need to cover the costs of their student visa, healthcare surcharge, and other expenses related to moving to the UK for the Ph.D. program.

The requisite documentation:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Fully completed "EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership Application Form - Research Summary" form
  • Letter of application outlining your academic interests and prior research experience
  • Transcript(s) providing full details of subjects studied and grades/marks obtained. If you are still studying, an interim transcript is acceptable.
  • Two references If you are not a national of a majority English-speaking country, evidence of your current English proficiency must be submitted.

All application documents must be submitted in English. Certified translated copies of academic qualifications must also be provided. The deadline for applications is midnight (GMT) on 19th February 2024. Shortlisting and interviews for the Studentships will occur during the week commencing 25 March 2024. The outcome of the interviews is expected to be communicated by middle April 2024. Details about the interview format will be provided to invited applicants, but they should be prepared to discuss the research proposal in detail.
